Anri's Item Box power works by absorbing things into her shadow - she can make anything her shadow falls on sink into it, but it only works with her natural shadow. With the upgrade, she'd be able to absorb things into her body when she's in shadow form, but she still wouldn't be able to use her shadow constructs for this purpose.
